Software dumps bring a taste of the Touch Diamond2 to the original

No quantity of illicit CABs will grant your Touch Diamond a 5 megapixel camera or touch-sensitive zoom bar, but at least you can get some of the Touch Diamond2’s software goodies ahead of time. everythingdiamond.info is hoting a plethora of binaries ripped from a Touch Diamond2 ROM, including several versions of the new on-screen keyboard, the photo album app, calculator, volume control, and more, all just waiting for a lovely Touch Diamond to call home — especially cool considering the sequel’s screen resolution has changed. Odds are we’re just weeks (if not days) away from a full cooked 6.5 ROM with all of the Touch Diamond2’s features for the Diamond, but if you’re really into living on the bleeding edge, your playground awaits.

Canon PowerShot D10 First Impressions Digital Camera Review

March 7, 2009 by camerascoop

The PowerShot D10, a cute-looking $329.99 camera that shoots at 12-megapixel resolution with a 3x zoom, can handle water pressure down to 33 feet, temperatures down to 14°F, and the impact of a 4-foot drop. In comparison to other waterproof cameras on the market it has a much softer design, and for the depths of water you can take it to, an eminently reasonable price.

Cool8800C handset says KIRF on the outside, “Player Games” on the inside

Cool8800C handset says KIRF on the outside,

Despite the incredible popularity of videogaming, there’s still a stigma attached by many to those who play them, thinking gamers fat or lazy and generally not good people to be around. For anyone sensitive to those criticisms, the Cool8800C offers an escape, looking like a perfectly normal imitation of Nokia’s 8800 on the outside, but, like a transformer that runs illegal ROMs, quickly changes into a portable gaming console in disguise. Flip it open to reveal a full D-pad and four input buttons plus a 2.8-inch WQVGA LCD for playing emulated NES games or watching analog TV, or snap it shut to make use of its VGA camera and 900/1800MHz GSM connection. No, it’s not likely this one is destined for release anywhere too far outside of China, meaning you, dear reader, are probably going to have to come out of the closet with that gaming addiction of yours already.

New firmware version for Canon SD880 / IXUS 870

March 6, 2009 by camerascoop

Canon release firmware update version 1.0.1.0 for the PowerShot SD880 IS / Digital IXUS 870 IS. This firmware update corrects a phenomenon that when the following settings are used in combination, if the shutter button is pressed halfway to focus during shooting (AND the AF frame magnifies), but the shutter button is released without taking the picture, the camera will lose power. If the fifth digit from the left of the serial number is 2 or above, the issue has already been corrected at the factory with a firmware update…

Canon PowerShot SX1 IS First Impressions Digital Camera Review

March 4, 2009 by camerascoop

The Canon SX1 IS is an ultrazoom camera in the purest sense of the term; it packs a whopping 20x zoom lens that can go from a 28mm wide angle to a 580mm zoom. It\’s also a hybrid device, capturing 10-megapixel images and full HD video at a 1920 x 1080 resolution that can be played back through the built-in HDMI port. Canon has mostly used CCD sensors on their high-end point and shoot cameras, but this is the first to use a CMOS sensor; a sizable 1/2.3 inch sensor that captures 10 megapixel images. But it\’s not cheap; with a list price of $599 it is only slightly cheaper than a comparable SLR camera, and is $100 more expensive than the comparable Sony DSC-HX1.
